Updates, Changes, and Hippie Alert!!!

Wow, I've been SOOOO slack about getting the blog updated. I mean a lot has been happening lately. Most importantly, BARACK OBAMA IS OFFICIALLY THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. YES!!!!! I must admit that I was more than a little bit ready for this primary race to be over. Hillary was driving me CA-RAZY. But I do respect her and give her the most props for finally sucking that shit up and standing for party unity. Good job Hills.

Other than that, I've officially started working out and focusing on nutrition. I'm working with a trainer about 3 times a week, and doing some daily cardio to improve my stamina (I'm way out of shape, Lord help me). It's a much needed change, and definitely a new lifestyle change for me COMPLETELY. But it's all good.

I'm also becoming more earth-friendly. Yep, ya girl if officially going green (which isn't necessarily that hard to do and I refuse to spend more money on this ish).
So let me tell you what small steps I'm taking on my mission of going GREEN (aka becoming a hippie):
  • Using only natural hair and body products (Carol's Daughter Products are mostly all-natural)
  • Recycling paper (magazines, cardboard, glass, aluminum) - not much goes into the trash
  • Buying locally grown and organic products - Love whole foods and farmer's markets
  • Taking reusable water bottles into work and refilling with a brita pitcher - no more plastic bottles!
  • Using Shaklee Cleaning Products at home (which is great for my dog)
  • Using reusable bags at the grocery store (easy to do in a single person household)
  • Keeping prepackaged foods to a minimum
Now I must admit, these changes are forcing me to be smarter with my money, which in the long run saves me a lot of money. Most things are reusable and pretty cost effective. Not to mention, they are probably saving me money in health problems later on in life should I continue my same patterns.

So, I'll keep you updated on other tips I find, because so far, these changes haven't been too hard to integrate into my life (which is pretty busy these days). Also, please let me know if you have any other tips.

I'll be back soon,

Good for you 'going green'. Love the remark about knowing how to spend it! I second that! I am so happy about Obama and pray for some major change. Have a great day.

These are some great things you're doing if you're just starting off. Cool points for you girl! I can't wait to see what other tips you're going to find. Make sure you keep me posted. In the mean time, here's one I think you should consider...BIOHEAT! Have you ever heard of it? It's very popular in the green community so I'd be surprised if you haven't. It's AWESOME! It's biodegradable and non-toxic, so you can forget about breathing in all of those nasty fumes and what not. The best part about it is that it's made up of heating oils blended with every-day products like avocado and corn. Cool right?

I heard about it through my job here at NORA. I did a bit more research and found some more great tips and interesting info from:

Check it out and see what other interesting info is out there that you might be able to use.

Hey Hippie! I was actually thinking of getting one of those water cooler thingies until I looked at some blog and found out they aren't GREEN ENOUGH! But that's okay. I read the Pur water filter is a good one. Let me know how the Brita works. I've been using the reusable grocery bags for a few years now and they are sturdier and easier to manage than the plastic bags anyway. Plus they deduct $.03 off my grocery bill per bag when I use them. That's .0000000000000000000001 gallon of gas!
