Sorry I haven't been keeping this blog up to date, but I have a very short attention span, maybe it's ADD? I don't know, but I just got inspired I guess to give a few words on recent developments.

I don't know WTF has been going on lately, but I had to include a brief mention of recent bitchassness that cannot go unnoticed. Excuse my use of the Diddy term, but if there was ever a more appropriate time for it to be used, it's now. Moving on....

1. - The New Yorker's extreme satire at the expense of the Obama family - I get the point, but the shit is not funny. Nope, not even a little bit.

2. - Will Smith's role in the most racially insensitive movie I've seen in quite a while - Hancock. Dude (who's our first official black 'super' hero) was a violent alcoholic who breaks things (A LOT), scares children, uses bad language, and sleeps all day - all while chasing white women (oh, he saves a couple people too). Looks like makers of this film read directly from a copy of black stereotypes 101, but decided it wouldn't be noticed because crossover hit Will "Fresh Prince" Smith was their bright and shining star. Damn that. Btw, there wasn't a black woman in sight in the whole movie. I guess we'll have to break that barrier another time. Maybe she'll be a loud-mouthed-finger-snapping-head rolling-overweight woman on the hunt for negligent baby-daddies on the streets of Detriot. (Wait, that's a great idea, I could be RICH!) But to summarize, I give it 2 m-effin thumbs the f*ck down. Save your $$.

3. - Jesse Jackson's dumbass comments about Obama last week made me a little sick - but just a little bit. If anything, he helped Obama more than hurting him, but it just made the man look horrible. Go sit down somewhere Jesse. Holla back in November. Please.

4. - McLaughlin's comment about Obama fitting the stereotype of a typical Oreo. Um...thanks old white man who seems to fit the typical stereotype of a racist mother******. But mmm oreos, I'm hungry....

Today on Father's Day, Obama talks out against absent black fathers (including his own). Amen. I for one have never really celebrated Father's Day for this very reason. I haven't heard from nor seen my biological father since a visit back up to upstate NY when I was about 7 years old. I've been thinking about going up to visit the man but I don't necessarily have the desire. I'm SO tired of men, especially black men, not understanding the importance of being in the life of their children. I have absolutely no respect for him, but I do need to forgive the man before it's too late. Ugh. Ah well. Maybe one day....

RIP Tim Russert, you will definitely be missed..

I often look forward to "Meet the Press" to guide my political compass - this program provides direct fact-based reporting that is grossly lacking in today's media coverage. He seemed like a sincere and charismatic reporter that I was particularly drawn to. There aren't many reporters I can say that I necessarily "like" as a human being. I tend to like Chris Matthews, T im Russert, and Anderson Cooper (yea that's about it). Others, I never feel to connect to - other than they deliver news/spin, and I listen. It's strange how you can develop relationships with t.v. personalities you've never met. But I must admit, I felt a certain sadness and sense of loss knowing that one of my favorite reporters would no longer be on to share in this exciting political landscape we find ourselves in. I felt a genuine connection he had to politics and most importantly his family.

Another thought of mine when I initially heard he'd had such a sudden death due to a heart attack, I quickly thought about how the devastating effects of heart disease in the African American community. I think an emphasis needs to be placed on healthier living across the board. So, I'll start doing "health" blogs periodically, mostly to ensure that I'm keeping myself on track. Lead by example right? *wink* I'll keep in touch.

Updates, Changes, and Hippie Alert!!!

Wow, I've been SOOOO slack about getting the blog updated. I mean a lot has been happening lately. Most importantly, BARACK OBAMA IS OFFICIALLY THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. YES!!!!! I must admit that I was more than a little bit ready for this primary race to be over. Hillary was driving me CA-RAZY. But I do respect her and give her the most props for finally sucking that shit up and standing for party unity. Good job Hills.

Other than that, I've officially started working out and focusing on nutrition. I'm working with a trainer about 3 times a week, and doing some daily cardio to improve my stamina (I'm way out of shape, Lord help me). It's a much needed change, and definitely a new lifestyle change for me COMPLETELY. But it's all good.

I'm also becoming more earth-friendly. Yep, ya girl if officially going green (which isn't necessarily that hard to do and I refuse to spend more money on this ish).
So let me tell you what small steps I'm taking on my mission of going GREEN (aka becoming a hippie):

Using only natural hair and body products (Carol's Daughter Products are mostly all-natural)
Recycling paper (magazines, cardboard, glass, aluminum) - not much goes into the trash
Buying locally grown and organic products - Love whole foods and farmer's markets
Taking reusable water bottles into work and refilling with a brita pitcher - no more plastic bottles!
Using Shaklee Cleaning Products at home (which is great for my dog)
Using reusable bags at the grocery store (easy to do in a single person household)
Keeping prepackaged foods to a minimum

Now I must admit, these changes are forcing me to be smarter with my money, which in the long run saves me a lot of money. Most things are reusable and pretty cost effective. Not to mention, they are probably saving me money in health problems later on in life should I continue my same patterns.

So, I'll keep you updated on other tips I find, because so far, these changes haven't been too hard to integrate into my life (which is pretty busy these days). Also, please let me know if you have any other tips.

Working, Insomnia, and JoJo

Ok, it's been a while since I last wrote. My bad. I blame work. I've been working OT trying to ramp up for a big project we have going on. It's pretty exciting, but can get tiring getting up to speed. Mostly because my sleep pattern is all off. For some reason I haven't been getting more than four hours sleep/night. I have to do better with that. I have an obsession with reality t.v. that we will have to discuss another time.

Oh, and my dog, JoJo is ruining my life. He's about to turn 1 in about a week and is still not fully potty trained. I mean he was cute and all when he was a baby (see pic) but now it's a little much. His needs to tell me when he needs to go outside. If only I'd known it was going to be this much work to get a dog, I would've had to pass on the pet owner gig - ugh. He's cute, but not worth the trouble. I love him to death, but he is driving me CA-RAZY! He needs to get a job. I mean how do pet owner's keep their house clean and smelling great? I mean really. It's tough enough with just me. This is definitely making me rethink those 4 kids I want. Jeeezus. I was trippin. Lord, give me strength.

But back to the length of time since my last post. To be honest, I just haven't been all that inspired to write. Everything has been pretty "blah." Not that that's a good or bad thing. Just no huge ups or downs in my life as of late. But I'll try a little harder to keep in touch. Any ideas on some new blog topics? Btw, I generally spend about 10 minutes writing my posts, don't get too deep. ;-)

For a while I've been very encouraged and excited that Americans were looking past race for once and voting for a great Candidate who is pushing for positive change in our country. That was huge. For once, I had faith that we were seeing true progress. Clearly I was sipping that hope-aid (red, it's my favorite).

But for a couple of weeks I've been hearing a huge increase of racial rhetoric by every news outlet there is. Over the last few months they have used race as a way to divide Americans at the polls. Now I'm watching this Barack Obama bashing on rotation on mf-ing CNN (used to be my fav. news channel) which I could've sworn was Fox News - talking about his pastors comments (who gives a flying ****?). I've also been watching SNL for the past few weeks and have been extremely disappointed in their racist (did you see the Sharpton/Jesse skit?) and ridiculous coverage of Barack Obama and his campaign - I thought comedy was supposed to be funny - guess not. I'm so over this. They are destroying this man on some b.s. That man must really love his country to risk his life running for this office and taking this kind of grief...he's a better person than I am - f*ck that shit.

And the NERVE of Geraldine Ferraro to suggest that his race is giving him the upper hand in this campaign - is she insane? I mean really. That's insanity.

I'd like to say that the American people are smarter than this, but I said the same thing last election when George Bush was elected. I was wrong then too. Damn.

If Barack doesn't win this damn democratic nomination, I will not be voting in November (or maybe I'll vote for Nader for kicks). I'm way too deflated. I'm over politics.

And for the record, who cares about Spitzer (I mean really)? Or these racial issues? Or his pastor? Lets talk about the damn ECONOMY and these GAS PRICES (check the pic above), this is CRAZY! Oh, true story, they have televisions at the gas pumps - gets your mind off the fact that gas prices are OUT OF CONTROL. They are trying to SELL you more stuff by advertising products via commercials literally at the gas pump. For reals. Sunoco. For the record, I spent $50 at the pump today. Insanity.

Okay, I've been so immersed in this political coverage for the last couple of months, that it's invaded my dreams. Seriously, I woke up this morning stressed (the f*ck) OUT after watching non-stop Ballot Bowl 2008 coverage. It reminds me of how addicted I was to watching the news after September 11th - I know weird. That also, wasn't a good time for my sleep. But for real, I'm seriously over this thing though - talk about over-saturation of the media - jeez. Either way, we need a definitive answer to who's going to be the Democratic nominee on MARCH 4TH - and deal with it. Please, I can't take anymore.....SHOOOOOOOT! I'm tired of hearing about it. The same lame arguments, same speeches, same rallies, deep down knowing whoever wins is no Superman [however, I agree anyone is better than Bush] so.....LET'S MOVE ON! Oh and if they mention the word "African American" or "Woman" or "Latino vote" ONE more time....wtf?...talk about divisive politics - what the HELL is the point? Why can't they just be Americans? Why do these demographics have to be explicitly called out in every newscast? See, now I don't like latinos....I blame CNN (kidding). But seriously, if there's a point, I'd like to know...

This contest is getting so negative and SO intense, that I fear that the Democratic party will not be able to unite and rally around the chosen candidate (whoever that may be) and win in the general election. Even though the opponent is an OLD man who supports the war for 100 more years and could care less about economic policy.

The TV adaptation of A Raisin in the Sun aired on ABC tonight and I LOVED it. I got to go to the play on Broadway and meet the cast and I really enjoyed it - even Diddy (shocking, but again his performance was pretty good).

My question is - is this play still relevant? In short, my answer is YES. Everyone has a dream, but what happens when an entire culture is held back from ever getting the opportunity to achieve them? Clearly there's no such thing as an easy way out. Moving forward takes time, dedication, strength, HOPE, energy, and a clear vision. Sound familiar?

Obama - Clean Sweep! - MD, DC AND VA!

I'll be honest, this morning when I got up from bed, I was pretty confident that Obama would sweep DC and Maryland. But NEVER did I expect for him to win Virginia by such a HUGE margin. I mean 64% of democrats in Virginia (with a state called Lynchburg) ALL feel that a man named "Barack Obama" is the best candidate for the president of the United States of America.

I must say that I'm finally getting that feeling of being a true "American." You know, that feeling I had when I walked on campus at my HBCU. That feeling that you REALLY belong. That you are on a level playing field with everyone else. That feeling of - if you work hard, and stand for the right things - you really can do ANYthing. Serious moment for me.

When I arrived at the polling station today to vote, I was kind of taken aback. It's really difficult for me to put into words how I actually felt when I saw Barack Obama's name on the ballot. It actually shocked me how emotional that moment was, going to vote for this man who has over the course of these past few months, has inspired so many (including myself). How he can, in the face of all odds, and in the midst of extraordinary criticism and cynicism continue to SWEEP all these states is just outrageous. I LOVE IT! He and Michelle (we're on a first name basis) are the epitome of who I want to be. Successful, intelligent, ambitious, idealistic, confident, proactive, and community focused - not to mention grounded in God with a central focus on family. What an honor it will be to have them leading our country.

I happened to find Michelle's interview with Larry King on Youtube, and thought I'd share. Luvs it! She's definitely no Laura bush (who I strongly believe is a Stepford Wife).

For the record, I've been ignoring all the conversations regarding what the "world is ready for" vs. what it's not - nonsense. Clearly America IS ready to spice things up a bit - Obama raised over 7 million dollars in 36 hours, while Clinton had to dip on those pockets for a mere $5 million. She has some BIG players in her corner too - namely lobbyists and celebrities across America - so that was a shock. So, like Obama said last night I refuse to listen to ignorant cynicism, which most often tends to cover for wisdom.

Yesterday Obama SWEPT Hillary big time in Louisiana, Washington State, and Nebraska. What?! Nebraska? It is SO on... Her strategy? To parrot everything Barack says in her own speeches and bash Bush (too easy). Come on now - you can do better - or maybe you can't.

This weekend and through Tuesday he will be in the Chesapeake area (DC, MD, VA) campaigning. Luckily I'm pretty sure he has MD and DC on LOCK. VA will take a little work but he's used to hitting the concrete and working for his, so I'm claiming that too. He tends to do extremely well with the educated middle-to-high income demographic, so from what I know of northern VA, he should be in there.

Guess who's Bizzzack!?!

Ok ok, it's been a while, but I'm baaaaaaaack. There's been A LOT going on - personally work drama, but that's all behind me and things are looking up BIG time! So I thought I'd share news I found interesting while sitting here waiting to file my taxes. [Time out. Let us take some time out and pray that I get a refund and don't have to pay ANYthing. Amen.]

Now back to what's been going on in the world. Where do I start? I know EXACTLY where to start - my favorite candidate of all time: Barack Obama. I had the opportunity to go to the rally held in DC where he, Ted Kennedy, along with Caroline Kennedy spoke at American Univeristy this past Monday. It was a HUGE moment in history - same place JFK spoke 40+ years before. I can't wait to have kids to tell them about that day in history - it was awesome. If my friend allows, I'll share some pics she took at the rally.

Just standing there taking in the fact that the best candidate of 2008 happens to be a black man in America - hearing the passion in his voice - the applause from the crowd - the unity - the sheer excitement for what COULD be in America - nearly brought tears to my eyes [but I'm no punk, lol]. I've never experienced anything like that before. And I'm glad I got an opportunity to do that this week.

Another update is I got a chance to finally go through some paperwork that had been accumulating in my place since I moved in. During clearing out some paperwork I ran across some of my mother's old things. In case you didn't know, my mother passed away in 1999, right before my senior year in high school. Since then, I've never really finished going through some of her paperwork. But anyway, let me tell you what I found:

First, I found an AWESOME short story she'd written. It was written from the perspective of it being 6 years in the future. She was healthy and growing in the Lord, and was able to fulfill her dream of ministering to street folks in my hometown. She always identified with those who had lost faith in their journey with God and did her best to minister to those most in need. Just knowing what she'd gone through gives me hope and renewed faith that I can definitely pursue anything and everything I want to in my life. Particularly my non-profit organization in my hometown of Gary, Indiana. So I'm getting it poppin' in 08 .

So far it's been a really busy year. I'm starting a business, working on the non-profit business plan/proposal, and trying to grow in my career. I must say that I'm blessed to have some of the opportunities I have, so I won't complain. God is good...

But I'll keep in touch a little better. I promise. How about once/week? ;-)

DC's first Winter Snow

Yay, it finally snowed! I LOVE looking out my window and seeing the snow - so pretty. Well, ok, I DID like snow. Way before I had to worry about this horrible commute and traffic. It took FORever getting into work today! I almost turned around 3 times to go back home and watch Oprah all day (I'm behind on my episodes). But nooooooo, I decided to come into this b*tch today just to find out that my boss took the day off. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Whatever, I'm leaving early. There's always vacation time. And that's exactly what I need in order to avoid the evening rush. There's no way I'm mentally prepared to sit in traffic for 2+ hours this evening. There's no way. Okay. Done venting....and the snow DOES look pretty. :-)

Wait - Holdup - It's December?!

Ok ok, I KNOW it was just Thanksgiving and I HAVE been seeing all of the Christmas decorations and ridiculous over-advertising nonsense all over the t.v., but come on it's December ALREADY? Daaaaaaaang. I remember LOVING Christmas time. I used to count down the days. Now it's just a big commercial ploy made by big business in an effort to increase their profit shares. However, the part that I love - the spending time with family/friends part - is overshadowed by gifts that we really don't need. I mean, watching people spend all of their money to buy into such a commercial holiday seems a bit strange to me now. I mean I love giving and sharing, but I don't think going into debt is the real spirit of Christmas. Does anyone ever mention Jesus anymore when referencing Christmas? Really?

Oh and why are my credit card companies sending me blank checks like EVERYday trying to straight bamboozle me? I may be dumb, but I'm not THAT dumb. *Mental note* - I need a shredder.

But mostly, when December gets here I think of all of the things that I've accomplished, or haven't accomplished (ok mostly haven't accomplished) this year. On the bright side, it also motivates me to document all those things I haven't, and start making plans to put into action for the next year. So that's my plan for this week, to make my goal list for 2008 - not resolutions - goals. Should be fun. What are some of your goals for the new year?

A short list of mine include:

Strengthening my relationship with God - finding a church home
Living a healthier lifestyle - to include a healthier diet and exercise regimen
Working towards my plans of starting a youth non-profit center
Make smarter financial decisions - invest more money and budget wisely

Right on Time - Prayer

One of my favorite girlfriend's just sent this prayer to me in an email and it was right on time. I'm usually not into long spiritual emails, but this one was short, sweet, and to the point. Simple, but necessary.

Oh, here it is:
"Stars do not struggle to shine, rivers do not struggle to flow, and you will never struggle to excel in life, because you deserve the best. Hold on to your dream and it shall be well with you... Amen."

There will be a lot of people in your life who will spew negativity in the face of your dreams - almost unknowingly. I now realize that I only need to look to God for all encouragement I need in the midst of moving forward with all of those things I wish to pursue. Anything other than positivity I will choose to ignore.

Throughout the week of November 26,"NBC News With Brian Williams" will take a look at the issues facing African-American women across our nation in a new series "African-American Women: Where They Stand." The series will cover a wide-range of issues from their role in the '08 Presidential race, to the increased health-risks that they need to be concerned about.

Monday's installment will discuss African-American women's progress in the education field. Nearly two-thirds of African-American undergraduates are women. At black colleges, the ratio of women to men is 7 to 1. And that is leading to a disparity in the number of African-American women who go on to own their own businesses. Rehema Ellis will talk to educators, students and businesswomen about why this disparity exists.

Tuesday, Ellis will look at relationships within the African-American female community. Many agree the gender disparity in education and business among African-Americans is having an effect on relationships that African American women have. Some even say the implications could redefine "Black America's family and social structure." In the past fifty years, the percentage of African-American women between 25-54 who have never been married has doubled from 20% to 40%. (Compared to just 16% of white women who have never been married today). Ellis sits down with the members of a Chicago book club and talk about this difference and how it impacts them.

Wednesday, Dr. Nancy Snyderman will discuss the increases risks for breast cancer for African-American women. Mortality rates for African-American women are higher than any other racial or ethnic group for nearly every major cause of death, including breast cancer. Black women with breast cancer are nearly 30% more likely to die from it than white women. Premenopausal black women are more than twice as likely to get a more aggressive form of the disease. And, not only are African-American women more likely to die from breast cancer, but they're less likely to get life-saving treatments. Dr. Snyderman will profile one of the only oncologists in the world who specializes in the treatment of African-American women with breast cancer.

On Thursday, Ron Allen will take viewers to South Carolina -- the first southern primary state -- and ask the question: Will race trump gender or gender trump race? In South Carolina, black women made up nearly 30 percent of all democratic primary voters in 2004. This year, polls show a significant number are undecided, torn between choosing the first African-American or first female Presidential candidate. Allen talks with the undecided, as well the state directors for the Clinton and Obama campaigns, who happen to be African-American women.

To close the series on Friday, Dr. Snyderman will raise the frightening statistic that African-American women are 85% more likely to get diabetes, a major complication for heart disease. And, like breast cancer, more black women die from heart disease than white women. Dr. Snyderman will profile a leading expert and a unique church-based outreach program in South Carolina that seeks to spread the word about heart disease risks to black women congregants.

Mara Schiavocampo, Digital Correspondent for "Nightly News," will address two hot topics in the African - American community: interracial dating and the impact of hip hop music on black women. Interracial dating is a growing trend in the African - American community. An Essence.com poll found that 81% of participants approved of black women dating non- black men. According to a U.S. Census Bureau report in 2000, 95,000 black women were married to white men. In 2005, that number increased to 134,000. Schiavocampo will talk to experts about the trend and discuss how this defines the "Black family" of the future. Schiavocampo will convene a panel of leading black men and women from the hip-hop industry for an engaging discussion on whether hip hop lyrics and videos positively or negatively affect black women. The roundtable also will address how these portrayals are affecting relationships between black women and black men.

Consumers can go online to join the discussion and share their thoughts on message boards. They can also read and respond to blog entries atwww.nightly.msnbc.com. Alexandra Wallace is the executive producer of "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams." Bob Epstein is the senior broadcast producer, and Rich Latour is the senior producer for this series.

Dreading Monday - Sleepy Rant

Ok, it's 12:19a.m. right now....I should be sleeping. Preparing for tomorrow's return to work, but I can't sleep. I mean I had four days off, I should be ready to go back to work, right? Negative. So what AM I doing? Well, anything to avoid going to sleep. Reading random mags I haven't gotten a chance to read, sorting my pictures, organizing my iTunes, watching bad tv, oh and surfing the net.

Luckily I found a good article on one of my favorite blogs, Afrobella, about transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. I started this journey about 4-5 months ago and so far so good. It is messing with my vanity just a bit [ok more than a little bit], but I can't wait to have natural and more importantly - HEALTHY/FREE hair. Yes, I'm questioning how I'm going to look, but I'm optimistic and so excited about this new journey.

I'd also found Nappturality about a year ago when I attempted once before (before giving in to the chemicals) - and the blog has pointed me back in the right direction - just when I was thinking about going back to relaxers.

Oh, what also helped was when I searched "relaxer" on wikipedia. The results also helped to remind me that again, I was making the RIGHT decision. Btw, since I'm really trying to participate in the movement to support black products/businesses it doesn't help that a majority [if not ALL] weaves and relaxers are made by those who are anything BUT black.

I had a conversation with a caucasian female co-worker (yes, that one) about my hair regimen. Listening to myself it sounded so ridiculous that I paid so much money to get my hair straightened every 6 weeks. I mean A LOT of money went towards these products that damaged my hair. What was I thinking? I know she was definitely laughing silently on that one.

Who makes hair weave? Who makes relaxers - really? Why are we groomed from such a young age to get these chemicals that damage our hair? I know a lot of people believe their choice is completely independent of societal pressures, but I wonder if that's even possible. Is it?

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-relaxer/straight hair. The best part of being a black woman is the versatility we have with our hairstyles. Mind you, I'm not a fan of colorful weaves and creations, but we can do some unique and beautiful things with our hair. I just think we should be able to see our hair in it's natural form and still feel that we can be beautiful. Women especially feel a need to conform to men's view of beauty [not to mention society's] - so I really feel like we rarely look at what "we" think of as true beauty. Ya feel me?

What do you consider "pretty/handsome?" Be honest. I'd like to hear the male and female opinion firsthand.

On days like this with family, I realize how extremely blessed I am. I hope you all are able to spend this day with family, friends, and loved ones, while taking a step back to realize all the things that you are thankful for. As we are preparing for the Christmas holiday, remember that the things you are most thankful for are not material things, but those people who have made a difference in your life. Even those who have passed on before us have contributed significantly to who we are as human beings. For those mourning a loss this holiday season, I can honestly say that things DO get better. I appreciate all of those tho have helped me, even unknowningly, to turn into the woman I am today. I'd like to take that moment now to just say: Thank you. *Muah*

Update on the Larry King Interview with Dr. Jan Adams (the doctor of Dr. Donda West): Um...basically there was no interview. He went on Larry King Live, to say that he wasn't going to say anything at all - respecting the wishes of the family. I actually commend him for doing this and walking off the show, knowing Kanye and his family are going through a very difficult time right now. Reportedly, Kanye broke down crying at a show Saturday night in Paris while attempting to sing 'Hey Mama' - SO sad. I saw the vid on YouTube but didn't want to post it...he's definitely in my prayers.

On a lighter note, I heard this madness this morning. Apparently Lil' Weezy (Mr. Single, Ready to Mingle, I got Pringles) will be featured as one of the men of the year in the December issue of GQ Magazine [surprisingly all of those nonsensical hooks and mixtapes paid off]. Y'all crazy...stop playin'. But big-ups to Kanye for making GQ's Man of the Year: better.

ESPN is reporting that the former Atlanta Falcons star made arrangements with the U.S. Marshal Service to turn himself in today to begin serving his sentence -- meaning whatever sentence the judge hands down on December 10 could potentially end earlier.

Great Gift Idea for Avid Book Readers

Nerd post? Maybe. But read on. -- Amazon has recently released a sort of wireless ipod for avid book readers, called the Kindle. The display is the same size as the typical paperback book and it’s easy on the eyes. Books are easily downloadable and magazines/newspapers/blogs are updated automatically daily. This just may be the end of massive libraries. I love books, but this just seems easily transportable and accessible from anywhere.

Lets say I’m looking up technical information for work, I’d have to wait until the end of the day to go to the bookstore to pick up a book directly pertaining to my project. Now I can just download a book, and get to helpful information within seconds. Sounds pretty useful to me - the Internet is great, but this may actually be it's new sidekick. Dr. Jan Adams to Plead His Case on "Larry King Live"

The doctor who operated on Donda West just hours before her death will do "Larry King Live" this Tuesday. This will be the first on camera interview Dr. Jan Adams has done since the death of Kanye West's mother.

I can't wait to see what this man has to say. Apparently he wasn't even board certified in plastic surgery like many other t.v. plastic surgeons. However, he deserves his right to defend himself. I'm sure things like this happen more often than we know in a variety of patients around the world. It just so happens this patient was a relative of a pretty famous person. I'll hold judgement until I hear his case tomorrow.

The KKK Disbands: Leaves Their Job To Black Folks

Just got this in an email - and it went a little something like this:

KKK Quits
The KKK leader stepped to the podium, his hood
lowered around his shoulders and a look of disgust on
his face. He said, "Sorry guys but this will be our
last meeting; we're going out of business," A member
stood up in back. "But why sir?"

The leader sighed, "Well, reverend, the Blacks are
doing a better job getting rid of themselves than we
ever did, so we are no longer needed," There were
rumblings and protest. The leader raised his hand to
silence the Klan members, and said, "Their rap music
says more vile things about Black women than we ever
thought of."

The members grudgingly nodded in approval. The
Imperial Dragon continued: "And their women write
books and make songs that demean black men better than
my two speech writers ever could, looking down at two
men seated in
front who lowered their heads.

"They shoot each other constantly ", he continued;"
And as a group, they spend a huge amounts of money on
cars, liquor, that stuff they call bling bling, and
the proliferation of rap music -- as they talk about
all that in their magazines -- and nobody needs us to
talk about how a lot of their sorry butts keep playing
the race and victim cards while c complaining that other
groups are surpassing them in economic development and
supposedly getting more attention in schools.
Hell, they even support a so-called "Black Hair" DVD
that a white man is making money on, in four sequels
at $20.00 a pop.

They talk about how Koreans have taken over the
"black hair" industry, without acknowledging that
Black entrepreneurs had 100 years to get a monopoly or
entrenchment in the industry that Madam C.J Walker
founded 100 years ago, but got
out-hustled and out-strategized, while spending
investment capital elsewhere. Let's face it, they're
being hoisted by their own petards."!

Some members went looking for dictionaries, while
most members nodded as it hit them that their job was
finished; that Blacks had become their own worst
enemy.

The leader shook his head. "It's time to go back to
our regular lives as policemen, judges and
congressmen, and leave the business of getting rid of
Blacks to Blacks. They are just better at it than us,"
He then threw his hood on the ground and walked off
the stage. Thus ended the last KKK meeting.

Wow - I get it, the message is loud and clear. I'm thinking maybe we need to change the focus of these rallies and marches and aim them at our own communities. We've been ignoring the problem for far too long.

MLB After Barry Bonds - Hateration?

Apparently Barry Bonds has been officially suspended from the MLB after an indictment alleging that he tested positive for steroid use in 2000 (mind you this was 3 years BEFORE the MLB started its testing program). That's like trying to take Microsoft from Bill Gates because he smoked marijuana in the 70's. We all know steroid use was prevalent in baseball for years. I knew when they started comparing his ass to Babe Ruth, he was in for it, damn... I bet he's gotten MAD hate mail since he broke that record, lol.

Now for the record, Barry Bonds has NOT been found guilty - and there is no concrete evidence stating that he DID use steroids; however this indictment and suspension will ruin whatever career and reputation he's built for himself over the years. I really hope that he's able to regain some sort of recognition for his accomplishments in baseball history - free of all of this steroid speculation. I really hope so.

[From fox sports]: "One way or another, Bonds is fighting a losing battle. Even if he escapes relatively unscathed from a legal perspective, his standing with the public is so low that the majority of fans are unlikely to forgive him. Not that he seems to care.

No, he won't recover like Martha Stewart, who agreed to a five-month prison term when confronted with similar charges. Stewart went to jail and 2½ years later, she is again a popular homemaking expert, having revived her business empire seemingly overnight.

Sigh - Case of the Thursdays...

I'm having one of those "blah" days. The end of the year is steadily approaching and once again I find myself contemplating the purpose of my life, my goals, my frustrations, etc. I have quite a few goals lined up for next year but one thing that remains constant is "the bills must be paid." But what would I do if I didn't have to work everyday? I don't really know. EVERYTHING. I'd love to travel, volunteer, exercise, work with my non-profit, spend time with family/friends... But I hate even thinking about it, because it all comes back to the fact that I have to wake up and go BACK to work the next day. *Sigh*.

Don't get me wrong, I like my job - it's a great opportunity for me to contribute to something bigger than myself. I like my co-workers (some of them) and I like what I'm doing. I just don't want to "HAVE" to work.

Since when did I start feeling all entitled to everything without working? I don't know - I blame Paris Hilton and the media. I can't say I'm all that spoiled, but the fact is, I just want to win the lottery and do whatever the hell I want to do. I need a vacation. A good two-week vacation away from work. When will I ever get this? I can't say I've really had two weeks off all at once since college 3 years ago. This should be illegal. I'm tired of my alarm clock, taxes, time sheets, mortgage payments, traffic, work politics...somebody help me!

Ok, I know I'm making absolutely no sense, but it's because I'm trying to type while sitting here at my desk....sighing...praying that the clock moves a bit faster....praying that I'll win the lottery without even playing....

Traffic, Rants, & Expletives

Ok, today is my day to vent (you know before I move towards my whole healthy zen lifestyle free of expletives). So anyway, I commute about 2 hours/day (total) - pretty much standard in DC. But this shit REALLY gets on my nerves on the daily:

1. People with no EZ-Pass/Smart Tag for the toll road (WTF)!!!! It feels exactly like those visa check card commercials when things are zooming and ish but then someone stops the WHOLE show to find cash to pay the toll – B*TCH go in the damn cash lane! This really gets on my last damn nerve….it’s 2007 folks. Let me upgrade you.

2. People going the 55 mph in the damn fast lane (on the rare occassion we're moving at regular speed). If you drive slow, and you see cars passed you consistently, move your ass over to the right…DAMN.

3. People who ride the exit/entrance lanes to get ahead of traffic but just cause more traffic. Unless it’s me, then it’s ok – shit I have places to be.

4. People rubbernecking when they see an accident on the side of the road. This has been known to delay my commute at least an hour for an accident that’s just on the SIDE of the road. Get a damn life.

5. People who have to come to a complete stop to make a right onto a side road. I mean seriously, there’s no light, no stop sign, is your car really that f*cked up that you can’t make a damn right turn without stopping? Where did you get your driver’s license?

6. Stop and go….bumper to bumper traffic….hate it. Wasting my damn gas.

7. People who brake for no reason, CONSTANTLY, learn how to drive in slow traffic without slamming on your breaks every 2 seconds. Especially when you’re a huge truck and I can’t see in front of you….

Dr. Donda West, Noted Scholar, And Kanye West's Mother, Dies At 58

I was out tonight eating dinner when I heard the news from a couple friends. Extremely sad news. Kanye West's mother, Dr. Donda West, died early Sunday morning at the age of 58. Reportedly she died due to complications during cosmetic surgery last Saturday night, but I can't be 100% positive as to whether that has been officially confirmed. From what I've seen she seemed like an extremely positive woman, Kanye's best friend, and #1 supporter. My prayers go out to all of those affected by this loss.

Work, Chitlins, and White Folks

Ok people, I have to let y'all know what went down yesterday at work. It has a little bit to do with that pic of Jason "Mr. Chitlins" Whitlock you see up there in blackface. But anyway, let me set it up a bit for you. I'd just gone to lunch about an hour earlier with a Caucasian (I'm trying to be proper) co-worker (we'll call her Jane). Then I get an instant message on our internal work messenger that went a little something (no, it went exactly) like this:

Jane: "What's that food that African Americans eat? It's not grits but something else...?"
Jane: "It's kind of gross"
Jane: I am sure that ALL people eat it but I have heard how some like it the best
Jane: I think it's intestines...
Jane: Do you know what I'm talking about?

That's it in a nutshell. But I hadn't noticed the message until she called immediately after I hadn't answered.

The phone convo went a little something like this....

Jane: Hey girl!!! (trying to sound black like we're cool like that)
Me: Um...hello, what's up?
Jane: Did you get my message.
Me: Oooohh, no, let me check.
Me: *speechless*
Jane: I just wanted to make sure you didn't take it the wrong way
Jane: Some of my best friends are.....blah blah blah
Me: I think what you're referring to are chitterlings. They are more of a Southern dish than an "African American" dish.
Jane: Oh. Strange question huh?
Me: Very odd. I don't think anyone's ever asked me a question like that before.
Me: What made you ask that question?
Jane: I was talking to someone about becoming vegetarian and it came up...
Me: Oh.
*Awkward silence.
Jane: Um....so I guess I'll go now.

Ok, y'all, come on now.

Mind you, this is the same woman who tries to let me know how "down" she is by saying she likes certain black artists (who she can never remember the name of) and straight asked me if I had on a wig when I changed my hairstyle. Oh and made a special effort to say that she doesn't like black men and would never date them. She had a couple chase her HARD (calling nonstop, leaving notes on her car, etc.), but will NOT date them. Mind you, the chick is not Angelina at all (but that's another post right there in itself - some blk men have mad issues). But I held it down, kept my composure, and had a good laugh off this ish.

But here's my theory. Lets keep it real - racism/envy exists even in the workplace. I'm a pretty educated chick - B.S. in Computer Science, M.S. in Engineering, working as a software engineer - I don't think that ish matters, it's the fact that I'm BLACK (woops I mean "African American"). This woman is also a software engineer (working with outdated technologies), but doesn't have the education to back it up. I'm thinking that these conversations she likes to have with me are a way to knock me back down to size. That ish definitely worked yesterday. I felt REAL colored, lol. Good job Jane.

I should've said something stupid as hell too, like, "what are those things Caucasian Americans keep hanging? I know ALL people probably hang them, but I hear whites like it best. Um....not burning crosses, but.....what is it again?" Jk, jk....dang.

Truth is, I don't think "Jane" is really all that racist. And, I'm not really upset - just annoyed. I think she just has no idea how to act around blk folks. Or maybe the problem with our society is that we're TOO race sensitive and need more folks like Jane to just ask the uncomfortable questions to learn more about race-sensitive issues. But f*ck that, she better not cross me again with that ish, lol. I might not be in the mood to be so friendly next time. But on a serious note: What would you have done?

A blk co-worker of mine gave me some great advice. She says the woman needs to 1) Check the motive of her curiousity and 2) the way she asks a question. Example: If asked to a Mexican American, which one of these questions would fly: 1) Why y'all be hittin pinatas with sticks?, 2) I'm curious, can you tell me the origin of pinata tradition?, or 3) What's that silly thing Mexican people hit with sticks? (You decide)

She also gave me a good bible verse that was perfect for this situation (had to go to the LORD with this one y'all) --> "But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing they do gender strifes." - 2 Timothy 2:23

I Need HELP!

Hello all - I'm at work so I'll be quick (excuse the typos). I've been in the process of writing a proposal for a government grant for a non-profit organization I'd like to start. To be honest, I'm generally pretty private about my personal business, but I need HELP! So, I'll give a little bit of background information.

I'm originally from Gary, Indiana (seen above), and went to an HBCU to study Computer Science. Throughout my studies, I noticed that there is a large disparity of African Americans (particularly African American women) studying within the fields of the Sciences and Mathematics (when compared to other races). As a prior member of an existing organization (known as the Louis Stokes Association for Minority Participation) I realized how helpful the organization was for young adults such as myself. Therefore, I decided to start a non-profit in my hometown that will provide students (grades 5-12) with an outlet to reach their dreams as well. There is a desperate need to get students more involved in their own education - specifically in areas of mathematics, science, and technology.

Ok, moving on...I won't get into all of the specifics, but I could really use a mentor to help not only with my grant-writing process, but also with helping me to get the organization off the ground and running. I need an entire business plan, some commercial office space, a board, etc. I must admit that it's a lot of work for someone who works full-time and is in the process of pursuing a technical certification for work (sucks). But this IS my passion and I want to make sure that my ideas are translated into an AWESOME non-profit center that may make a difference in the lives of a few kids in my hometown. HELP!! If you know of anyone who may be of assistance please respond with any references you may have. Thanks in advance, you have no idea how much I appreciate it.

I know a lot of conversation is being had regarding Bill Cosby's appearance on Meet the Press this past weekend [and Oprah yesterday] and I'd like to state my opinion on the matter. First of all, I think - WAIT I KNOW - that it's ABOUT TIME someone said what's STRIKINGLY OBVIOUS! Just because we're afraid of white people hearing our dirty laundry doesn't mean that they are blind to what's going on in our own communities - and who cares? F*ck 'em. We need to worry about building and growing from here [or going from "Victims to Victors" as Cosby says it]! Come on People!!!!! I'll blog more on this later, but def. had to get my opinion out there. For those who disagree, I suspect you may be the people he's talking about. Check yourself.

I hope you all get upset, so upset that you read the book, so upset that you decide to do something to bring about change, so upset that we all stop b*tching and whining and start coming up with solutions like Mr. Cosby has done - he may not have all the answers, but what he HAS done is start to come up with solutions - and that is commendable.

Noone wants to hear this ish - especially from Grandpa Cosby all over Meet the Press, but lets change it up. Drill Instructors go free in Martin Lee Anderson case

A few of my former classmates brought this case to my attention today and I must say I'm ENRAGED. Apparently so were a large number of college students from FAMU, FSU, and TCC in Tallahassee, Florida who marched in protest [seen above] after hearing this shocking verdict.

If you haven't heard about this case, like myself, here's the gist of it:

Eight drill instructors at a Florida [Bay County] bootcamp [the instructors' names are Henry Dickens, Charles Enfinger, Patrick Garrett, Raymond Hauck, Charles Helms Jr., Henry McFadden Jr., Joseph Walsh II and camp nurse Kristin Schmidt] were arrested in the murder of Martin Lee Anderson, a 14 year old boy. The murder of 14 year old Martin Lee Anderson was all caught on video survellience tape. However, recently [Friday] all 8 were set free after 90 minutes of deliberations by Judge Michael Overstreet and an all-white jury.

I don't know about you, but I don't think cases like this are getting the press they deserve. We have a huge problem with people in positions of "authority" who let that little bit of "power" get to their head and decide to play God. Let's call it what it is -- racist, unjust, cruel.... "October 15, 2007. Tyler Perry's movie Why Did I Get Married was the weekend's biggest grossing movie. But it now looks like one of the actors, Michael Jai White, may be asking himself why he got married - in real life. That's because according to one of MediaTakeOut.com's faithful readers, Michael may be having an affair on his wife.

Here's what our reader had to say:

Before the release or even press about Tyler Perry's movie "Why did I get Married?", I was working as a waitress in an Atlanta restaurant; Michael Jai White was pretty much a regular, coming in 2-3 times a month at that time, and almost each time he came in, he was with a different woman on a date. This was apparent by the interaction he had with each woman.

The only time he was not with a different woman was one time he came in with Richard T. Jones, who is also in the movie. On one particular visit, Michael came in and had a romantic dinner with Tasha Smith, she is also in Tyler Perry's new film. They were kissing across the table, looking into each other's eyes, damn near making love. They looked like they had already, or were ready to devour one another, although she seemed much more into him than he was her. I walked by the table one time and heard her say to him "I love the way your lips feel." They were mad into each other, like they were the only ones there.

This would all be cool if Michael Jai White was not a married man. His wife is a doctor, an attractive, light skinned woman, and she was one of the women he came into the restaurant with; I held her credit card in my hand, which read her first name (which I don't remember, last name (White, MD). The nerve to bring your wife to a place where you've brought at least 3 other women in what were obviously romantic dates.

Michael, we really hope that you were just having innocent dinners with all those women...."

Daaaaaaaaaaang, let's hope this is NOT true. I'm actually a bit shocked that he was caught "with WOMEN." I always thought he was a bit "suspect." But for all we know they were just his "girlfriends" and not the way it's being reported. I'm just sayin...

See, I'm not the type who says support a black movie BECAUSE it's a black movie [yes I am]- BUT I must say this movie it's REALLY GOOD. It's the best movie I've seen in a while. If you're anything like me, you don't like to see too many trailers because it ruins the surprise....but if you want to see what you're getting into hit that play button.

If you haven't seen it yet, where in the HELL have you been???? Can't wait til it's out on DVD, it's definitely gonna be a classic. Well done Tyler, I'm def impressed. But on the real, Jill Scott KILLED it...she made the movie. Angela and Marcus were also HILarious. Too much...

"VATICAN CITY (AP) -- A Vatican official suspended after being caught on hidden camera making advances to a young man said in an interview published Sunday that he is not gay and was only pretending to be gay as part of his work.

Stenico was suspended by the Vatican after he was caught on tape making sexual advances at a young man.

In an interview with La Repubblica newspaper, Monsignor Tommaso Stenico said he frequented online gay chat rooms and met with gay men as part of his work as a psychoanalyst.
He said that he pretended to be gay in order to gather information about "those who damage the image of the Church with homosexual activity."

Vatican teaching holds that homosexual activity is a sin.

"It's all false; it was a trap. I was a victim of my own attempts to contribute to cleaning up the Church with my psychoanalyst work," La Repubblica quoted Stenico as saying.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said Saturday that the monsignor had been suspended pending a Vatican investigation.

Stenico is a top official in the Vatican's Congregation of the Clergy. The Vatican acted after officials recognized Stenico's office in the background of a television program on gay priests that was broadcast on Oct. 1 on La7, a private Italian TV network.

Stenico was secretly filmed making advances to a young man and asserting that gay sex was not sinful. In the Repubblica interview, Stenico said he had met with the young man and pretended to talk about homosexuality "to better understand this mysterious and faraway world which, by the fault of a few people -- among them some priests -- is doing so much harm to the Church."
He said he had never been gay and was heterosexual, but remained faithful to his vow of celibacy.

Italy's Sky TG24 said Stenico had written a letter to his superiors with a similar defense. Calls to Stenico's home and Vatican office went unanswered Sunday. "

"When shopping for collard greens, the color of the leaves is a good indicator of how much flavor they will have. Deep-green leaves, usually the older, larger ones, will have a stronger flavor. With long cooking, they will become tender and succulent. Bunches of leaves that are small and tender are better for recipes with a quicker cooking time. Avoid leaves that have coarse stems or yellowing leaves; those can be signs of lost flavor and nutrients.

Keep in mind that the greens will be trimmed and will shrink during cooking, so buy at least a half-pound per person. Two large bunches should serve as a side dish for four people.
Collard greens are often cooked with fatback or other meat flavorings, but the recipes you'll find in the Oct. 10 issue of Food are lighter and meatless.
